Goth – A state of mind or….

I really never knew why I’ve been drawn to this music. Maybe it’s because of the darkness that lays as a floor under every song in this genre. I remember when I was 13 years old and met up with, at that time the most wonderful human being I’ve come across, and got so totally fascinated by her choice of music. She was part of the first generation Goth, and the clothes she was wearing to accent her love for the dark mystic tunes was beyond my known world.

Me, I came from a music palette of Sex Pistols (uk), Gyllene Tider (swe), Noice (swe), Ebba Grön (swe) and Peter Gabriel (uk). An extreme variation, I know, but hey, I was 13 and my life had just started to show itself to me. And do remember that this was back in -79, long before internet was mans every right. But I knew there was something, a piece I was missing. And this girl represented it with her black and white outfit and the hard painted face.

She showed me a whole new world of music with band like Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Sisters of Mercy, The Virgin Prunes, The Sex Gang Children, Christian Death and of course The Cure.

The was music that emerged from Punk Rock and lived side by side forming its own life and culture. The poetic sensibilities of gothic rock lyrics exhibits literary romanticism, morbidity, religious symbolism, and/or supernatural mysticism.

I had found my first piece of my musical soul!!!

And this was the key: mysticism and the dark undertones. Even though I’ve been wandering through many genres I will always nurture my soul with a good Goth tune every now and then, to the memories of that girl that opened my mind for music way of the mainstream.

In Second Life I’ve been wondering around for a long time, trying to find some interesting Goth music, but there has been very little. There are of course clubs like Club Zero, but not so many bands performing this kind of music.

My choice of tune this time will not be an old classic Goth song but a “new” Goth and roll song, they like to call their genre. The 69 eyes, a fantastic band from Finland with the front man Jyrki 69 with his dark melodically doom voice. The song I’ve chosen is Brendon Lee, a song which is often played at Ormdricka by DJ Lucien or PirateJenny. Woooooot for them!!!

So close your eyes and listen

And the quest continues…
