Goth – A state of mind or….

I really never knew why I’ve been drawn to this music. Maybe it’s because of the darkness that lays as a floor under every song in this genre. I remember when I was 13 years old and met up with, at that time the most wonderful human being I’ve come across, and got so totally fascinated by her choice of music. She was part of the first generation Goth, and the clothes she was wearing to accent her love for the dark mystic tunes was beyond my known world.

Me, I came from a music palette of Sex Pistols (uk), Gyllene Tider (swe), Noice (swe), Ebba Grön (swe) and Peter Gabriel (uk). An extreme variation, I know, but hey, I was 13 and my life had just started to show itself to me. And do remember that this was back in -79, long before internet was mans every right. But I knew there was something, a piece I was missing. And this girl represented it with her black and white outfit and the hard painted face.

She showed me a whole new world of music with band like Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Sisters of Mercy, The Virgin Prunes, The Sex Gang Children, Christian Death and of course The Cure.

The was music that emerged from Punk Rock and lived side by side forming its own life and culture. The poetic sensibilities of gothic rock lyrics exhibits literary romanticism, morbidity, religious symbolism, and/or supernatural mysticism.

I had found my first piece of my musical soul!!!

And this was the key: mysticism and the dark undertones. Even though I’ve been wandering through many genres I will always nurture my soul with a good Goth tune every now and then, to the memories of that girl that opened my mind for music way of the mainstream.

In Second Life I’ve been wondering around for a long time, trying to find some interesting Goth music, but there has been very little. There are of course clubs like Club Zero, but not so many bands performing this kind of music.

My choice of tune this time will not be an old classic Goth song but a “new” Goth and roll song, they like to call their genre. The 69 eyes, a fantastic band from Finland with the front man Jyrki 69 with his dark melodically doom voice. The song I’ve chosen is Brendon Lee, a song which is often played at Ormdricka by DJ Lucien or PirateJenny. Woooooot for them!!!

So close your eyes and listen

And the quest continues…

Music - what’s that all about?

Do we need music? Would we be better off without it? If you ask me, of course NOT!!!

There are some scientists that have, seriously, come to a conclusion that music is not needed for the Homo sapiens well being. What a load of bollocks!!! I say if we had more understanding about what music really does for your mind and body, there would be less trouble in the world.

On a theoretical level you could say that something is really happening to your body when you surround it with music. I think it may be related to the physiological - the brainwave patterns we experience when performing different activities. The easy examples would be Alpha, Beta and Theta waves during different stages of relaxation and sleep and dreaming. I think it’s likely that at least to some extent, music "strikes a chord" so to speak, with some of these, it’s almost like musical hypnosis.
Music is the “language of the Soul”. It's an emotion, only you're “hearing” it. Do you know what I mean?
Music is a fantastic consistent of resonance, vibration and carrier waves. Music, at least temporarily, increases our emotional Intelligence, no question about that!

So, why do we listen to different types of music during various moods?
Why does music uplift us, or depress us?
The questions are many and I will haunt them all down, that is my quest. And I love you to join me.

I will from now on add a tune every time I write here. Then I want you to “really” listen to that particularly tune without a preset opinion or thought. I will pick songs from all kinds of genres. My hope is that, regardless your own taste of music, there’s always something good in a song, as long as it’s well performed. And I want you to find it for your own amusement.

So the first tune out is – a classical one – W.A. Mozart : concerto pour piano no. 21 KV467 (II) in the hands of Geza Anda on piano. Close your eyes and enjoy.
See ya’ll next time with some hard core music and the quest continues…

Welcome dear you!!!

So, it has finally happened, I'm blogging. I know, I said that it would never happen, mainly cause I have so little time left in my life to squeeze in this kind of things.

But then I began to realize that this is what it's all about. I have so much in my mind that I want to share, so this is my quest, Apollon's Quest. Music has always been a huge part of my life and will be to my last breath. In the cradle I started too form melodies instead of words.

I've been a prodessional DJ, on and off, for over 25 years, worked as a studio musician and I have my share of years on stage as well. My main focus has yet been to write and compose music and lyrics, for me and for others. I have never been able to stay in one genre, were the brain takes me, I'll follow :)

Firstly, this blogg will take you across the universe, mainly a journey within Second Life, where I have been nuturing my soul and spririt for over 3 years now. I will seek out the essence of good music, no matter what genre. I've come across many artists and I'm still extraordinary overwhealmed over the high quality there is behind the avatars.

Secondly, this will also be a journey inside of me, to find the very essence of music that moves me. But I also hope that it gonna move you.

Thirdly, I hope this is gonna be as much fun for me writing it as it's for you reading (and commenting) it. I'm hoping that you will find my thoughts intriging as well as indulging. You know, Curiosity didn't kill that cat :)

Hugs

ps ...and bare with be, I'm just a swedish guy that always have a song in my mind, but sometimes lacking the proper word at hand, so some error here and there will occur. *S*
